Great news for IT employees, the state government has announced complete work from home for IT employees in Special Economy Zones (SEZ). It is implemented last Thursday. The ministry of commerce department said WFH will be continued.

As COVID-19 spread is under control in India, many companies are calling back their employees to work from the office or their assigned location. TCS, Wipro, Infosys, etc companies are the first mover toward WFO (work from the office) from the WFH model. However, some IT companies like DXC, Zomato, etc are those companies who have no plan to resume work from the office for employees.
The Central Government allowed IT companies in Special Economy Zones (SEZ) to permit 100 percent work from home (WFH) or out of these areas in India. IT employees are now free to continue WFH till 31 December 2023.
The Central Government in July 2022 had allowed 50 percent of employees for WFH in SEZs, including permanent and contractual employees. WFH was permitted for one year maximum in Special Economy Zones. However, at that time Industry pointed out various lacking topics including compliance-related challenges.
But, now there is a new rule implemented last Thursday with some relaxation for employees in SEZs. Companies now allow 100 percent of employees to work from home or anywhere out of SEZ unit. This is permitted till 31 December 2023 now.
The VP and head of public policy at NASSCOM, Mr. Ashish Aggarwal said "Today 85 percent of Industry following remote working model. The new state rules have implemented one year of relaxation for employees to work from home till 31 December 2023 now. He said in the next year industry will be able to stabilize a hybrid working model for their employees."
Ashish Aggarwal also said that these are the major steps taken by the government now with a new resolution of earlier challenges made in July 2022. There were many challenges in the last implementation for work from the home model in the SEZs unit. Gradually, Industry now will be able to establish back to WFO or hybrid model in the next one year.
